WhatsApp Introduces AI-Powered Writing Help Feature with Strong Focus on Privacy
Popular messaging app WhatsApp has launched a brand-new feature called “Writing Help”. This tool uses artificial intelligence (AI) to assist users in writing better and clearer messages.
Private and Secure
According to the company, this feature is built on private processing technology. This means that messages will remain completely private — neither WhatsApp nor Meta will be able to read the texts or the AI suggestions.
How It Works
When writing a message, users can click on a new pencil icon to open Writing Help. The AI will then provide different style suggestions, which the user can either accept, edit, or ignore.
After typing a message, if the user taps on the emoji icon, a small arrow sign will appear. By clicking this, the Writing Help feature will turn on automatically and start offering suggestions.
Tested for Security
WhatsApp also mentioned that the technical details of this private processing system were shared earlier and reviewed by security experts. Independent research groups like NCC Group and Trail of Bits have already published audit reports, confirming the company’s security claims.
Optional Feature
The company explained that features based on private processing, such as Writing Help and Message Summaries, are optional. They will remain turned off by default, so users can choose whether to use them or not.
Availability
Right now, the Writing Help feature is only available in the English language for users in the United States and a few other countries. It has not yet been launched in Pakistan. However, WhatsApp plans to expand it to more regions and languages by the end of this year.
