Types of Passports in Pakistan: Ordinary, Official, Diplomatic and e-Passport New Govt Press Release
A passport is a small document that lets people visit foreign countries. Every country gives passports to its citizens. In Pakistan, the passport office under the Ministry of Interior is responsible for making them. There are mainly three types of passports in Pakistan. Some new modern versions have also started like the e-passport. Let’s understand them in very easy words.
Ordinary Passport (Green)
This is the most common passport. It has a green color. Normal Pakistani citizens use it for travel like job, study, visiting family, or tourism. On the passport page, it shows the letter “P”, which means personal.
It can be made for 5 years or 10 years. But for children under 15 years, only 5 years is allowed. Almost every Pakistani traveler carries this passport.
Official Passport (Blue)
Another type is the official passport, often called the service passport. It has a blue cover. This is not for normal people. It is only for government workers who travel abroad for their duty.
For example, judges, parliament members, provincial ministers, or government officers may get this passport. It shows the letter “S” for service.
Diplomatic Passport (Red)
The third type is the diplomatic passport. It has a red color. It is given to very senior people like ambassadors, federal ministers, or top officials who represent Pakistan in other countries.
It shows the letter “D” for diplomatic. This passport sometimes gives extra travel benefits.
New Versions: MRP and e-Passport
In 2004, Pakistan started the Machine-Readable Passport (MRP). It can be scanned at airports and is safer than the old manual passport.
In 2023, Pakistan launched the e-passport. This is a modern passport with a small chip inside. The chip keeps personal details, fingerprints, and a photo. It makes travel faster and more secure.
Old Passports (Not Used Now)
Before, Pakistan had manual passports (handwritten with photo) and also Hajj passports for people going to Makkah. These are not used anymore. Now only modern passports are accepted.
Conclusion
So, Pakistan has three main passports: green for citizens, blue for government officials, and red for diplomats. With the launch of the e-passport, Pakistan has entered a modern and safe travel system.
