Three-Day School Holidays Announced in Punjab District
The District Education Authority (DEA) Nankana Sahib has officially announced a three-day holiday for all schools in the city. Both government and private schools will remain closed to celebrate the 556th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and one of the most respected spiritual leaders in the world.
According to the notification issued on November 1, 2025, the holidays will start from November 4 and continue until November 6, 2025. The order applies to 24 government schools and all private educational institutions within Nankana City.
Reason for the Holidays
Every year, thousands of Sikh pilgrims from across the world, especially from India, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other countries, travel to Nankana Sahib to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth anniversary. This year’s event is expected to be one of the largest, with more than 2,000 pilgrims from India already issued visas by the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
The holidays were announced to make it easier for visitors to travel, stay, and attend the religious events without traffic or security issues. Nankana Sahib, being the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, becomes a center of activity during this time every year.
Schools and University Closures
The official notice also includes Baba Guru Nanak University, which will suspend classes from November 3 to November 6, 2025. The step is part of precautionary measures to manage the large number of visitors expected in the city.
The order lists several schools, including Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School, MC Girls High School, and Fatima Jinnah Girls High School, along with various primary schools in areas like Canada Colony, Purani Abadi, and Shaheed Kot.
Security and Management
To ensure the celebrations go smoothly, the district administration has completed all arrangements for security, crowd control, and transportation. Extra police personnel will be deployed around main roads, Gurdwaras, and bus stations.
The District Education Officer has also directed monitoring teams to make sure that every school and college follows the holiday order properly.
Final Words
The three-day closure is not only a time for rest for students but also a way to show respect for a great spiritual leader who preached peace, unity, and equality.
Citizens of Nankana Sahib are advised to plan their schedules accordingly, avoid unnecessary travel near the main event areas, and cooperate with the authorities. These holidays aim to provide a peaceful environment for both local residents and international pilgrims to celebrate the sacred event with joy and devotion.
