Punjab Govt Offers Rs. 100,000 for Converting Petrol Bikes to Electric – Green Credit Program

Taking a significant move for a healthier and eco-friendly Punjab, the provincial government has introduced an incentive plan through the Green Credit Program. As announced by Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb on Monday, citizens who convert their petrol motorcycles into electric bikes will be rewarded with a cash prize of Rs. 100,000.

What is the Green Credit Program?

The Green Credit Program is designed to encourage citizens to take eco-friendly initiatives. Under this scheme, individuals can earn financial rewards, known as green credits, by contributing to environmental protection. Some of the key activities include:

  • Converting petrol motorcycles into electric vehicles (EVs)
  • Planting trees to promote greenery
  • Replacing traditional bulbs with energy-efficient LED lights

The program is open to all residents of Punjab, and applications can be submitted online through the official portal.

Tree Plantation Campaign – “Plant for Pakistan”

Along with promoting electric bike conversions, the provincial government has launched an extensive tree-planting drive. Marriyum Aurangzeb highlighted several measures under the campaign:

  • Lahore residents may dial 1399 and receive complimentary tree saplings at their doorstep.
  • 300,000 trees will be planted along the Lahore Ring Road to improve air quality.
  • A digital tracking system, inspired by Australian technology, will be used to monitor tree growth.
  • Encroached forest lands are being reclaimed and returned to the government.
  • A dedicated fire control unit, in collaboration with the Bank of Punjab, will manage forest protection.

Tackling Smog and Air Pollution

Improving Lahore’s air quality is another key target of the provincial plan. According to the minister:

  • Seven air quality monitoring points have been established and are operational under the Punjab system.
  • Controlling smog and pollution has been set as a top priority.
  • Citizens are being urged to actively take part in plantation drives to contribute to cleaner air.

Marriyum Aurangzeb emphasized:

“Every Lahori shares the responsibility of planting trees and protecting the environment. The more greenery we create, the healthier our future will be.”
