Punjab Govt Approves Ravi River Project to Protect Lahore From Future Floods
The Punjab government has approved a huge project to protect Lahore and nearby areas from the possible floods caused by the Ravi River.
According to Ravi Urban Development Authority (Ruda), the price of this project is almost Rs. 214 billion. Of this, the provincial government will provide a loan of rupees. 150 billion, while Ruda raised Rs. 64 billion from their own resources.
What is Included In The Project
The plan is to construct a 90 km-long embankment on both sides of the Ravi River. The wall will be 300 feet wide and 27 feet high, which makes it one of the country’s largest river security projects.
Along with the wall, water training structures will also be installed. These will help control the flow of the river, reduce the risk of floods, and protect nearby houses, businesses, and fields during heavy rains.

For many years, floods from the Ravi River posed a danger to Lahore and its surroundings. The project will act as a strong shield for the city, which protects millions of people from natural disasters.
Ruda officials said that the scheme is not only about the construction of walls, but also more effectively about the management of water resources. It is considered a long-term solution for repeated flood problems.

The final decision was made in a meeting chaired by the Housing Secretary, in which senior Ruda was present with the officials. Approval reflects the government’s commitment to invest in large-scale infrastructure that improves public safety.
