Punjab Approves New Underpasses, Flyovers, and Road Projects
The Punjab government has approved several new development projects to improve road infrastructure across the province. These projects will include new underpasses, flyovers, road expansions, and the conversion of single-lane roads into dual carriageways. The goal is to make travel safer and faster for the public.
Massive Development Plan Announced
According to official reports, the total cost of these 25 new projects is estimated at Rs. 88.65 billion. Construction work on many of them is expected to begin very soon. The announcement shows the government’s strong focus on improving the road network and reducing traffic congestion in major cities.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Punjab Minister for Construction and Communications, Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharath. During the meeting, he received detailed updates from officials of the Communication and Works Department about the progress of each proposed project.
Focus on Lahore and Surrounding Areas
One of the key projects in the plan is the Barqi Road in Lahore, which will be turned into a dual carriageway. This specific project will cost around Rs. 2.24 billion. The minister also mentioned that the Kashmiri Bazaar area will be expanded to improve accessibility and reduce traffic jams. Along with this, several new flyovers and underpasses will be built to make travel smoother within the city.
Development Beyond Lahore
The Punjab government is not only focusing on Lahore but also on other cities and districts. The Sheikhupura–Farooqabad Road will be upgraded to a dual carriageway at an estimated cost of Rs. 6.94 billion. This project aims to improve road safety and make travel between these cities faster and more convenient.
Government’s Commitment to Better Roads
Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharath instructed all departments to speed up the necessary steps so that construction can start without delay. He emphasized that completing these projects on time is essential to boost economic activity, improve trade routes, and provide relief to daily commuters.
With these new projects, the Punjab government hopes to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and support the province’s growing transport needs.
