HBL and Mastercard Launch New Business Debit Cards for SMEs in Pakistan

HBL has partnered with Mastercard to introduce special Business Debit Cards for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), including entrepreneurs and sole proprietors. The bank has launched two types of cards – Classic and World Business Debit Card. This step shows HBL’s commitment to supporting local businesses and moving Pakistan towards a cashless economy.

Why It Matters

SMEs play a key role in Pakistan’s economy. With over 5 million SMEs, they provide almost 40% of the country’s GDP and create jobs for one-third of the workforce. To support this sector, HBL has already become the first bank to cross PKR 100 billion in SME lending and is also known for non-collateralized lending, making it easier for small businesses to access credit.

About the Business Debit Card

The new debit card will help SMEs handle daily transactions quickly and safely. As the largest debit card issuer in Pakistan, HBL wants to make payments simpler and expand digital banking for businesses of all sizes

The launch event took place at HBL Tower, Karachi, on 27 August 2025. It was attended by:

  • Muhammad Nassir Salim, President & CEO – HBL
  • Aamir Kureshi, Head of Products, Transactional Services & Solution Delivery – HBL
  • J.K. Khalil, Division President, East Arabia – Mastercard

What Leaders Said
