Chief Minister of Punjab Salary 2025 – Full Pay, Allowances & Benefits

In 2025, Punjab changed its laws so that the Chief Minister, ministers, the Speaker, and Deputy Speaker will now receive full monthly pay even when they are on leave. This is a big shift from earlier rules that lowered their pay during absences.

What the Law Says Now

  • The Punjab Assembly passed the Punjab Public Representatives’ Law Amendment Act, 2025, on July 1, 2025. This new law updates previous acts so that top officials no longer lose pay when they are not actively on duty.
  • Before, officials got a reduced amount during leave. For example, the CM used to get only ~Rs 39,000 (a small part) of pay during leave. Now, the full salary is guaranteed.
  • The law applies to the Chief Minister, ministers, Speaker, and Deputy Speaker. They all are now legally entitled to the same salary whether they are working or on official leave.

Salary Increases Before the New Rule

It’s important to know that before this leave‑pay change, these officials also got a large increase in their base salaries. In December 2024, Punjab’s Assembly passed a bill that raised many salaries:

  • Ministers: From Rs 100,000 to Rs 960,000 monthly.
  • Speaker: From Rs 125,000 to Rs 950,000.
  • Deputy Speaker: From Rs 120,000 to Rs 775,000.

Because those salaries are now higher, the leave allowance changes also took effect to match those new figures.

Deputy SpeakerVery low (similar fraction)Full salary (Rs 775,000)

Why This Change Matters

  • Fairness: Officials won’t lose income simply for being on leave — their compensation is more stable.
  • Consistency: The leave pay now matches their higher salaries, fixing a mismatch between new salaries and old leave rules.
  • Legal clarity: The law makes it official and binding — removal of earlier ambiguity or deductions. Pakistan Today

Criticism & Concerns

  • Many people feel that giving full pay during leave to already highly paid officials is unfair, especially when many citizens struggle financially.
  • Critics argue this change benefits the top class, not the common people, and might strain public funds.
  • Others say that public office bearers should be accountable — full pay regardless of attendance may reduce incentive to work actively.
